Installation

Simple and intuitive installation: you can do it yourself!

Installing a TENAX synthetic lawn is quite easy and intuitive. It can be done autonomously for small surfaces like terraces and balconies, while it is better to call a professional (a gardener) for more complex activities such as covering gardens or wide public or private areas.

TENAX has created a video tutorial and simple guidelines that explain step by step how to install your turf in the right way, distinguishing between the installation on the ground and on a floor.

Preparing the base – Installation on the ground

1. Remove vegetation

First of all, remove the existing vegetation turning over the soil and making sure to remove roots and clods. Otherwise, use a common weedkiller.

2. Level the surface

Rake and level the surface rolling the soil (after watering it to make it soft) until it becomes homogeneous and compact.

3. Unroll the root barrier fabric

Unroll a permeable root barrier fabric (like TENAX FULL COVER) as separation layer. Then, overlap the adjacent rolls about 5 cm and anchor the fabric to the ground if necessary.

4. Ensure a good drainage

In particular situations, when a perfect drainage of water is needed, lay a drainage composite layer (like Tenax DR1 or DR2) on the root barrier fabric.

Preparing the base – Installation on the floor

1. Clean the surface

Carefully clean the surface to be covered in order to install the synthetic lawn in the right way.

2. Create the draining layer

If the floor is impermeable, for example there are tiles or marble, lay a non-woven fabric (like Tenax TS1*) or a drainage composite (like Tenax TNT 600+) to facilitate the flow of water.

* The appropriate drainage composite must be chosen considering slope, base type and exposure to weather elements.

Installation – Lay the lawn

1. Cover the surface

Unroll the synthetic lawn rolls, placing them side by side to cover all the surface and trying to minimize the number of cuts and joints.

The turf must be cut on the underlying black membrane using a sharp cutter, without pressing excessively and repeating this step more times.

2. Fix the side edges

Fix the side edges of the rolls with Tenax MAT DUO* on the floor, while use flat-head nails placed every 50 cm on the ground.

*Use Tenax MAT DUO only if it is absolutely necessary. Indeed, this solution could leave residues if you should remove the lawn.

3. Join the rolls

To join two rolls, you have to place the fabrics side by side making sure they are perfectly placed and verifying that the fibres follow the same direction. Fold the edges and lay the Tenax MAT SEAL adhesive tape (or the MAT STRIPE non-woven fabric, putting a polyurethane glue on it). Lastly, unfold the edges.

4. Spread the sand

Wait 24 hours until it is dry and, if necessary, spread some sand (refer to the product data sheet). Use a scrubbing brush with hard bristles and make the sand penetrate deeply.
